Krisnallen

Krisnallen is an artificial language created by Marco Quaranta for Aurea Sectio's "The Sword of Ice and Fire".
The first writer to use of artificial language in fantasy genre was J. R. R. Tolkien, author of The Lord Of The Rings. After him, many writers created entire languages for some of the characters they use in their stories, but Marco noticed that nobody ever invented a language for fairies. So he decided to create a language which could be used by the fairy Veryan, the female main character in Aurea Sectio's first full-lengut album.
The result is Krisnallen, composed by more than 5000 words and a complete grammatical system. It is sung by Veryan in track number 10, "Among Ancient Ghosts".

The name Krisnallen comes from “krisa-”, root of the verb “krisaain”, which means sparkle, shine, and from the word “ēnall”, which means language, idiom. Therefore it can be considered the "sparkling language", or the "language of the sparkling people".
In Marco's story, this language is spoken in Valandyan, the land from which the fairies come.

Krisnallen is a melodical and vowel language, composed by sweet sounds. Its alphabet has 35 letters, 13 of which are vocals.
When he created his grammatical rules, Marco has been inspired by some real European languages. Therefore, in Krisnallen you can find Italian, English, French, Spanish, German, Gaelic, Finnish, Norwegian and Latin influences. He also gave to his language the SVO sentence structure, which means that Krisnallen can be considered very similar to Italian, grammatically speaking. But he also used a few completely invented rules, to make Krisnallen more "believable" (after all, this language is spoken by a completely different race when compared to humans).
To be thorough, Marco also created an alphabet (because it was unlikely that a people like fairies could use the Latin alphabet).
You can see an example of written Krisnallen below.

(With Latin alphabet you can transliterate the phrase in “Krisail ŧaran, dar”. This is the main greeting phrase of fairies and it means "Shine forever").
